The year 2019 was a positive year for the tourism sector, for trade fairs, but also for trade and events: there was indeed a slight growth. In particular the Events and Tourism fiels had seen an increase of 7%, so that all operators in the sector were already projected with great optimism in the planning of Events 2020, with an estimated increase between 9% and 11%.

We could never imagine what 2020 would have reserved for us

In view of the sudden coronavirus explosion, new restrictions were introduced for the whole Italy on 11 March 2020, with a DPCM signed by the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, with the aim of combating and curbing the rapid contagion of coronavirus.

Thus all events involving assemblies of persons have been suspended and for which it is not possible to imagine the respect of the interpersonal safety distance of at least one metre. Congresses, business meetings, reunions and all events, including theatrical, playful, public and private are cancelled.

ALL OF ITALY STOPS

The measures applied by the government to limit the contagion were absolutely essential, but with the immediate closure of discos, exhibitions, concerts, live music etc. , predict, according to experts, a growth loss of at least one year.

LET’S TALK ABOUT NUMBERS: THE CRISIS THAT WILL RESULT BECAUSE OF CO-VID 19

“Confindustria Cultura” has already estimated losses of 5-7 billion €.
Tourism and Events, needless to say, are among the sectors that will suffer most.
The Expo Event, Association of Fairs and Events Switzerland, has calculated a damage that exceeds 150 million.
For “Assomusica” association, live music will record a loss of no less than 12.5 million euros.
With the cancellation of 7400 musical and theatrical concerts and postponements of 80% of events, for professionals in the sector seems a nightmare scenario.
An event that estimated a turnover of about 60 million was the Carnival of Venice, but also this was suspended early.

OF COURSE, WE ALL SAY NOW THAT NOTHING WILL BE LIKE BEFORE

The creatives are all on their knees: think for example of a DJ, who has to pay the mortgage but can not play because the clubs are closed.

Those who will suffer the most serious damage are the artists, technicians and theatre companies, whose contract is in danger of being terminated.

At a time like this we must look ahead

All true: this is a terrible moment, but deep down it is offering us a great opportunity.

It is allowing us to understand the importance of that human relationship that we no longer valued, “being together”, a value that will be regained very soon, and we will certainly be afraid, but together we will come out of it.
After this isolation, after months of exclusively digital contacts, maybe for a while we will have the nausea from smartphones and the desire to stay together, get out and also breathe a new air in our cities given the collapse of pollution levels. At this time as we never have to start thinking about the strategies to be implemented when, finally, all the activities will be reopened and organizing a great event will be liberating for all of us, will bring us joy and will show that we can be close again, and physically, too.

Best regards, hoping for a quick recovery
